New
Servers Online
Web clients will be pleased to know that as of
early April, we are hosting all websites on new Windows 2000 servers.
Additional
new
features include comprehensive statistical reporting, anti-virus
scanning and full database integration.
While
we still offer Unix hosting, the move to Windows 2000 servers
enables educari
to build faster, more dynamic sites and reflects
the significant increase in our web design and development capacity.

Central
London Connexions
|
| Our new website element for Central
London Connexions is now live. It links seamlessly from Central
London Connexions main website via a highly visible logo.
|
Central London Connexions approached us because
of our expertise in building websites for young people that
are informed by our extensive understanding of how to frame
educational messages for young people using new media such as
the Internet.
Our websites aim to engage young people in interesting
activities that hold their attention and provide them with interactive
experiences that go beyond information provision, helping them
to reflect on issues and think about their own situations, and
then act to change them.
The Central London Connexions website element
includes basic drugs facts, and has website links from where
users can get more detailed information. But the main feature
of the site is a suite of three diagnostic tools that helps
users to explore their use of cannabis, alcohol and ecstasy,
through quiz questions.
Their scores are processed and they are provided with health,
legal, and social advice relevant to their score. They are also
directed to sources of help and advice.
The website element also includes advice on tackling
drugs issues with young people for Connexions Personal Advisors
and for parents.

educari
and the Web
The educari partnership's mission is to improve
young people's experience of learning. We have a special focus
on the PSHE and C curriculum (in particular, drug education) and
on the National Healthy Schools Scheme. Our work includes: website
development and maintenance; research, evaluation and policy analysis;
consultancy and training; and publications.
Not just a website company
Thus, we are not just a website company. The added value
that we bring to web-based projects is based not only on our experience
in the areas of young people and drug misuse, but also on our
work with international, national and local public sector organisations
(for example, the Council of Europe, local DATs, Education and
Health Authorities).
Technical know-how
This experience is backed by technical know-how, and a
track record of building successful websites. We use Dreamweaver
and Flash to build good-looking, fast-loading, stimulating websites.
Other software (for example, Director, Poser) is used as required.
We use state-of-the-art web-positioning software to ensure that
clients' sites get noticed. We run our own virtual server where
clients' sites can be hosted. We advise on issues like domain
naming, accessibility (following the Government's e-guidelines,
etc), and misuse protection (particularly important when sites
are visited by children and/or young people).
The learning organisation
We call ourselves 'the learning organisation', and we like
to tackle new and demanding projects that develop our skills and
provide cutting-edge results. We also think that this mindset
is essential in this fast-moving field, where each new project
should take advantage of developments in hardware and software,
and in users' increasing sophistication. We are particularly interested
in projects that go beyond the basic information website and aim
to be educational. We like to give users opportunities to interact
in a game-like environment - we want to educate and entertain.
We are especially interested in 'hybrid media' - linking websites
with CD-ROMs, videos and printed media.
Accessibility
We are committed to making our sites as accessible as possible,
but we believe that differently structured sites with similar
content need to be created for audiences who are differently abled.
This also means that they can be read on different equipment -
a site suitable for a high-end networked machine with a fast internet
connection will not look very good on a WAP mobile phone! Therefore,
the future lies in creating different versions of sites that are
usable by differently abled people and on different platforms.
