Special Needs Training
We offer a one-day course for special needs teachers and assistants entitled ‘Drug education for children and young people with Special Educational Needs’

The aims of this training are:

1. to help professional workers with young people who have special educational needs to think about drug education in the light of the DfES Circular

on drug education and other official guidance

2. to provide participants with some basic information about drug education, and about the drugs that young people are likely to encounter

3. to introduce participants to the Special Needs and Drug Education Pack and to develop their confidence in using the Pack to tackle drug education with young people

4. to help participants to formulate or to develop their organisations’ policies on drug-related incidents.

Special Needs Work in progress
We published ‘Drug Education in PSHE & C and across the primary curriculum’ as a resource for all teachers of KS1 and KS2 children.

Most of the activities in the book can be easily adapted for children with different special needs.

But teachers are busy people and some special needs teachers might like extra help and advice on how our drug education activities can be used with their classes. That is why educari is planning to produce a special needs supplement to ‘Drug Education in PSHE & C and across the primary curriculum’.

If you have any ideas about the issues you would like us to address in this special needs supplement, or about the layout of lesson plans or the format we should use (book or CD-ROM), please let us know.

Special Needs and Drug Education (SNADE) website

This site was created by educari in 2000, and was funded by a Millennium Award to educari managing partner, Richard Ives.

The site design was by David Bor and Richard Ives, prior to our webteam's migration to database-driven 'active server page' (asp) technology.

For those of you who do not know, educari is a consultancy focused on drugs and young people. We produce publications (including some for teachers of pupils with special educational needs), conduct training and carry out research, evaluation and consultancy.
