Xoteric
Launches
March 2002 saw the launch of our long awaited CD-ROM for drug education;
Xoteric.
This innovative
resource can be used in a variety of ways with teenagers and has been
welcomed as a significant contribution to drug education in the U.K. To
find out more visit our Multimedia
pages, or www.xoteric.com;
the Xoteric website.

Our video
for drug education, In Too Deep is due to launch later this year.
Both teachers and pupils say they want to hear accounts from drug users
of what it's actually like to misuse drugs. But ex-drug users in the classroom
is a rather haphazard approach to drug education.
I2D
is an animated video carefully focussed on the key issues for young people,
which are explored through the fictional character of 'Eeezee'.
We follow
his 'Rakes' progress' through his use of a range of drugs and his related
experiences.
An associated
booklet provides many ideas for using the video in a variety of settings
and with a range of associated resources.

Booklet
for Parents
There
are a number of booklets for parents that tell them about drugs, but the
one published by the drugs charity, Addaction, which was written by educari,
aims to give parents more detailed guidance on how to talk with their
children about drugs issues.
You can download
it from Addaction's website by clicking here,
then clicking on the 'For parents' link and then on 'The Addaction Parents'
Guide to Drugs'.

VSA
Information for professionals
HEBS (the Health Education Board for Scotland ) commissioned educari
to undertake research among professional workers with young people in
Scotland about their need for information and advice about VSA (Volatile
Substance Abuse: the misuse of gases, glues or aerosols). There was a
feeling among professionals that VSA had been neglected. We identified
a need for easily accessible but comprehensive information.
As a result
of our research, we were asked to write the booklet, Volatile Substance
Abuse: guidance for professionals to meet this need. This comprehensive
publication brings together different kinds of information about volatile
substance abuse, and describes the different roles and responsibilities
of professionals. It aims to encourage a measured and appropriate response
to the problem.
The Health
Promotion Agency for Northern Ireland (HPANI) is producing a similar publication
tailored for the Northern Ireland situation. educari has advised them
on the changes that need to be made.
