Paper publications
We
publish books to support PSHE & C - and in particular, drug
education - in primary, secondary and special schools and in informal
settings.
We especially recommend to DATs our booklet, Let's Find Out About
Drugs Together, which is designed to help parents and KS2-aged
children to talk together about drugs issues. This booklet is
available in bulk for distribution through schools, parents' organisations,
etc.
The
booklet, Let's Find Out About Drugs Together, was developed from
a similar booklet produced in one local area. There are many such
examples of good material developed in one locality that do not
get national recognition. We are therefore keen to assist in adapting
locally-developed materials and helping to make them available
nationally.
We
have also worked with other organisations in developing material
appropriate to their needs. For example, we wrote the training
package for DrugScope's series of Governor Conferences, and for
the drugs agency, AddAction, we created a booklet for parents
about drugs. If you have a need for locally developed material,
contact us.
Electronic publications
More
and more material will be published in electronic form - on the
web and on CD-ROM - giving teachers, drugs workers and other professionals,
and young people and their parents easier access to specialist
resources. Electronic media also provide excellent opportunities
for innovative material that is appealing to young people.
However,
electronic media are under-exploited in providing drug information
and education. Where electronic media have been used, the results
are generally disappointing. But using leading-edge techniques,
new methods of education are possible. Just see Xoteric; our new
CD-ROM on drugs! It's out now, and features an interactive game-like
environment where young people learn about drugs and explore the
reasons why people might use them, and the possible consequences
if they do.
We
are also producing
an innovative trigger video for use with groups of young people.
This will feature our character, 'EeeZee', who has a history of
drug misuse.
The video; In Too Deep (I2D) is set on a TV chat show and demonstrates
our current capacity for producing broadcast-quality media with
excellent educational content .
This video will be excellent for use with young people's groups,
and we can work with local agencies in setting up a context for
showing it and maximising its educational potential.
